Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 12, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Markd: Bookmark Manager & AI Organizer ("the Extension", "We", "Us") collects, uses, and protects your data. We are committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected and strictly adhere to the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies.

1. Data We Collect and How We Use It

Markd is designed to operate primarily on your local device. However, to provide our core features, we require access to the following specific data:

A. Bookmarks (Local Data)

To function as a bookmark manager, the Extension requests the bookmarks permission. This allows Markd to read, organize, rename, and delete your bookmarks and folders. Your bookmarks are processed locally on your device and are synced only via your browser's native syncing service. We do not store your bookmarks on our servers.

B. Website Content (For AI Categorization)

When you use Markd's auto-categorization features, the Extension securely fetches the HTML text of the specific webpage you bookmarked. This text is transmitted directly to the third-party AI provider you have configured (e.g., Groq, OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, or your local Ollama instance) to determine the correct category folder. We do not intercept, store, or log the website content on our own servers.

C. Email Address (For Premium Verification)

If you upgrade to Markd Premium, we use Chrome's native Identity API to securely retrieve your Google account email address. This email is sent to our secure backend strictly to verify your active subscription status. We do not use your email for marketing, nor do we share it with third parties.

2. Third-Party Services

To provide our services, Markd interacts with the following third parties based on your usage and preferences:

3. Chrome Web Store User Data Policy Compliance

Markd strictly adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We certify that:

4. Data Retention and Deletion

Because Markd operates locally, your bookmark data, AI API keys, and custom settings are stored within your browser's local and sync storage. You can delete this data at any time by uninstalling the extension or using the "Reset All Settings" button within the Extension's UI.

Subscription verification data (your email address) is retained on our secure backend solely for the duration of your active subscription to grant you access to Premium features.

5. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy.
